From the Sticks to the Six

The perpetual audition for defensive line for the Argos has a new contestant, Ja’Gared Davis. Davis has signed a free agent deal with the Argos to help solidify the line and increase the effectiveness of a pass rush that had flashes last year but never really met its potential.

Davis was a force for Hamilton the last two seasons. He was an absolute wrecking ball in 2019 for the Ti-Cats and was good last year but a step below his All-Star season. Davis is 31 but lineman can age slower than other positions. He is a starting quality defensive lineman in this league who had 36 tackles and 6 sacks last season in Hamilton. What most likely what caught the Argo’s eye was his two sack Eastern Final against the double blue and his five sacks in three playoff games.

Will Davis rack up 10 sacks this season? Survey says no. But will the 6'1, 240 pound physical edge setter help clean up some off tackle run softness and bring some juice to the inside of the line as well? Yup.

The Argos did add a lot of lineman last off season and then most were hurt all season, so it can’t hurt to keep adding and to take one from the Grey Cup Champions…oh wait, no Hamilton’s last Grey Cup is Hotmail years old.

My hope is that he can be part of a rotation where he can maximize his strength and get some reps inside as well. Good signing by the Argos which is encouraging to see them continue to make smart moves.
