Boateng Back, Damonte Coxie Added
The Argonauts made two moves today, bringing back 25-year-old Canadian DB Matt Boateng and signing American WR Damonte Coxie.
Boateng hasn’t made much of a splash in the media since being drafted by Toronto 18th overall in the 2019 CFL Draft, but his play has been very solid. He started 2020 backing up Arjen Colquhoun at field corner and then found himself behind Treston Decoud and Jalen Collins when Colquhoun went down. Despite his lack of playing time, Boateng never once looked out of place when he was called upon and proved to be extremely reliable on special teams.
At 6’3”, 200lbs, Damonte Coxie is a big outside target with two highly productive seasons at Memphis under his belt. He opted out of his senior year a few games in, but a poor pro day seems to have soured scouts and he went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. His tape will look familiar to Argos fans as he showcases late hands, an ability to make catches in tight coverage, and shield with his body like Rogers, Brescacin, and Brissett, and he has a fantastic double move reminiscent of DaVaris Daniels.
